Bridal Shower Secrets

guest at bridal showerOne of the events at a wedding that seems to be overlooked is the bridal shower. I spend many hours a week with new brides and rarely is this topic ever brought up. I decided to look them up and see what does a Pinterest bridal shower look like?

Quickly on Pinterest, you can tell bridal showers have turned in to DIY showcases. I saw elaborate backdrops, themed food stations and everything had a personal sign. It was almost as overwhelming as doing a themed wedding search. All of this makes up a beautiful setting, gorgeous to say the least. Except it seems to be missing one thing.

This one thing is what I love about bridal showers. The conversations that happened at bridal showers between mothers, grandmothers, aunts and best friends are some of the most precious moments during this wedding season. This is the time when secrets are shared and advice is given. Some of it may seem outdated but most of it is timeless. You will laugh and maybe even cry a little bit.

So my bit of advice to you going into your bridal shower planning is to make a place for conversation. A small snack, a cuppa t, a and a long sit will fill you up with so much wisdom and advice. You will feel more than prepared when you take that walk down the aisle.

FOMO! Brides tell us it is real every day.

FOMO!  Yup, brides tell us it is real every day.  Fear of missing out!

This Magic Moment Bridal StudioWhile a study from a bridal Facebook group determined that the majority of brides only go to one store to shop, we see many brides who have 2-4 shops picked for their marathon bridal shopping weekend with their gang.

It is even worse when that very first dress stays in first place.  Oh my gosh, how can that be?  Let us tell you, it can be!  Happens a lot.  You know what you want and either picked it or described enough for a good attendant to pick it.

If you have tried on 10-15 dresses, you should have a very good idea if you have had enough choices and options.  Most importantly, just settle into trying on the dresses, take a moment to breathe, and determine if you feel beautiful and special enough for your magical day.

You clearly planned out this day so you have the most important people with you.  They are there to support you.  They are there to celebrate with you when you find that gorgeous dress.  Be present, relax, and enjoy it with each of them.

FOMO is a state of mind.

One state states FOMO as ‘the uneasy and sometimes all-consuming feeling that you’re missing out – that your peers are doing, in the know about, or in possession of more or something better than you’’. Under this framing of FOMO, nearly three quarters of young adults reported they experienced the phenomenon.

This Magic Moment Bridal Studio

FOMO can originate from unhappiness.  Let us just tell you, you should never be unhappy bridal shopping.  Whatever you body looks like, whatever your life is, whatever your day has brought, it’s a time to be happy, alive, and confident.  Someone loves you for the exact person you are.

Forget FOMO  Focus on all the love!

If you have done the research, and picked the perfect bridal store meeting your needs and wants, go with confidence your dress is there.  If it turns out it is not there for whatever reason, then try again.  No big deal.

Many times we see our brides relieved at our bridal appointments because they will have the opportunity to try on all the different shapes, styles, colors and materials to fully determine what they love on themselves.

A wedding dress usually is the most expressive garment you will ever wear.  It is like no other!

This Magic Moment Bridal StudioDo your research, pick your place, or two if you must, and go with confidence, go with people who will love on you,  At This Magic Moment Bridal Studio we promise to listen to you.  We will pamper you, and shower you with the love and attention you need.  With over 25 designers and 300 plus dresses, there is no fear of missing out.

Let the wedding fun begin.

A Neckline Perfect For You

The perfect wedding dress neckline can make a difference.  Going to look for your wedding dress can be overwhelming at first.  There are so many different shapes, styles, necklines, waistlines, colors, trains….so which one is right for you?  Breathe! Relax and take your time exploring a variety on you.

You will begin to discover what looks and feels best on you for you.  Just because it looks great, doesn’t mean you feel comfortable and confident. Find the one that give you it all.

So to start, let’s get acquainted with all the different wedding dress necklines you will find when looking for your wedding dress:

Wedding Dress Neckline1.  V-Neck:  This neckline dips into a V-shape in the front.  It is often a very slimming style on many body types at is elongates the silhouette.  Rounder face shapes appear more oval and petite brides appear a bit taller. V-necks also make it sexy!  The deeper the V, the sexier the bride. It usually works best with smaller to middle-size breasts and cleavage.  It allows for longer necklaces to be worn.
2.  Square:  A neckline that creates a square shape across the upper chest and is usually seen with straps or sleeves.
3.  High Neck:  The high neck appearance is similar to a turtleneck.  A great option for brides looking for a modest neckline.  It also gives a bride a more sophisticated look. Great for the offbeat or high fashion bride as they can tend to be edgy in fashion.  Most times it requires a bride to wear less jewelry and an updo hairstyle.
4.  Bateau or boatneck:  This neckline features a wider opening at the neck that runs parallel to your collar bone and comes together near the tip of your shoulders. It gives off a sweet simplicity.  It can create the illusion of a bigger chest in a small-breasted women.  Boatneck necklines are inherently graceful and usually recommends modest and simple accessories with this classic look.  (Psst….this was Meghan Markle’s dress!)
Wedding Dress Neckline5.  Illusion:  An illusion neckline that features sheer fabric or lace along the top part of the bodice.  Super popular and modern right now. The sheer fabric gives way to a hint of skin and is fashioned in different shapes and materials or lace.  It gives a great balance between sexy and sophisticated. Illusion neckline detailing is great for all preferences and body types.
6.  One-Shoulder:  One-shoulder is a very modern neckline, also known as asymmetrical, featuring one strap.  It is perfect for showing off your shoulders, collarbone, and upper arms.
7.  Off-the-Shoulder:  Off-the-shoulder is a very romantic style that allows the neckline to show off the collarbone with the material hitting the arms below the shoulder.  Think “old Hollywood” or boho-chic! Just remember that the material that sits low on the shoulders and arms restricts movement. Sometimes a trade-off for romance!
8.  Strapless:  Like it sounds, no straps!  A traditional strapless goes straight across the chest. This neckline is flattering on most body types, but is especially great on women with broader shoulders.  It accentuates the collarbone and shoulders. The straight across line can also give more of a vintage look and feel.
Wedding Dress Neckline9.  Scoop:  A Scoop neckline is rounded in the front neckline falling lower than a jewel neckline. Scoop necklines work great on brides with an athletic, pear, hourglass and/or petite shapes as it draws the eye down due to the wider neckline.  This lengthens your neck and accentuates your collarbone.
10.  Queen Anne:  A regal neckline that features a higher collar in the back and a scoop or V-neck in the front. This neckline conveys an Old-World charm and regality.  It highlights the neck and frames the upper chest.
11.  Halter:  A halter neckline usually ties around the neck in some form.  Great when a bride wants to expose her shoulders.  Great for creating a sliming look for broad shoulders.  It will flatter the upper body (shoulders and arms) of a taller bride. It will also help some shorter brides generate a taller figure by emphasizing the neck for a longer silhouette.  Halter necklines not only help show off the shoulders, but the upper back too. Keep it simple with jewelry….just the ears whether dramatic, dangling ones, or simple drop earrings. Perfect for the offbeat bride.
12.  Jewel:  A Jewel neckline has a small scoop fitted right below base of the throat and above the collarbone just like a crew-neck t-shirt. It is simple, modest and perfect for the bride who doesn’t want to be revealing.  This neckline is idyllic for anyone who wants to accentuate their upper body. It makes small-chested women appear bustier.
Spagetti Strap, Sweetheart, Cowl Wedding Dress Neckline13.  Sweetheart:  A strapless neckline that dips in the front creating an outline of the top of an upside down heart is called a Sweetheart neckline.  It is the most popular as it is flattering on most people. It is chic and sexy in a regal and tasteful way.  Sweethearts can help bustier brides enhance their natural curves. It works great for smaller shaped brides to create the illusion of a larger bust.  The sweetheart neckline can be slightly dipping (13A) to a plunging deep line (13B).
14.  Spaghetti Straps:  A neckline featuring very thin straps called Spaghetti straps.  This gives a sweet, dainty look.
15.  Cowl: Cowl neckline is a loose fitting and draping material in the front neckline.  It gives some old world romance and softness to the neckline.

The best way to discover what looks best on you may just be to try them.  Wedding dresses are like no other, so go to a place that will give you the variety and options to try on the different necklines that catch your eye or that you know look best on you.

We hope you come see This Magic Moment Bridal Studio.  With over 25 different designers and over 300 high-end designer wedding dresses, there is a great chance to try on the necklines, styles, shapes, and colors you want to see on yourself.

Bridal experience to make you smile!

Engagement ProposalBesides getting the ring and the love of your life proposing to you, shopping for your wedding dress is on of the most important part of the entire wedding planning process.  Finding your dress is so important, personal, fun, and sometimes scary.

We see so many brides that walk in our door pale and scared.  They want that perfect and gorgeous dress, but don’t know where to start, what it should look like, and if they can even afford it.  Here at This Magic Moment Bridal Studio, our focus is always on the bride and to make sure she can relax and enjoy as quickly as possible.

From Rachel on WeddingWire back in December, “I could go on and on about this adorable boutique! Unlike other dress shops, when you make an appointment here, 100% of the attention/focus is on you and only you. There aren’t 10 brides with the same appointment running around, it’s just YOU! I was very nervous about trying on dresses but the owner made me feel comfortable and was SUPER helpful! She helped me pick out the PERFECT dress. She made my experience fun and exciting! I wish i could go back and buy another! Haha!”

Your wedding dress may very well be the most expressive garment you have ever worn.  It’s usually going to be a big “WOW”.  It is a dress you want to be so beautiful in for your future husband.  Plus, you will be the spotlight all day long and in all your life-long wedding pictures.

Say Yes To The DressAnd then there is Pinterest and Say Yes To The Dress TV show!  Brides are flooded with so much info, so many different designers, styles, colors and looks, it can be overwhelming.  What we say to our brides is “BREATHE!”.  It’s going to be great.  We will discover together what YOU love on your body.  We will try on all the shapes and colors to make sure it is perfect for you.

Here is what Sherri has to say from Facebook, “I walked into This Magic Moment, and immediately felt welcomed. I was the only customer in the store, and was greeted with my name on the chalkboard. Lisa listened to my visions, and we began pulling dresses. As I tried each dress on, Lisa tuned into exactly what I was looking for. When I tried on the last dress, I knew it was the one! The selection was fantastic, and Lisa made me feel like a very special bride. I couldn’t have asked for a better wedding gown shopping experience! My highest recommendations!”

What we see a lot from our brides is everyone has their own imperfections, even if we can’t see them.  As women, we tend to be so hard on ourselves, especially about our bodies.  While we are all made perfectly beautiful just the way we are, we have to believe it.  We tell our brides “he loves you for the beautiful person you are so relax and let your beauty shine.”

The dress does not make you shine, you make the dress shine.  I have seen this proven time after time.  A bride and her inner personality and beauty is what makes the dress beautiful and sparkle.

This Magic Moment Bridal StudioThe one thing we love is our private and intimate appointments.  It’s just you, your loved ones, and either Mashel or Lisa, or, on a Saturday, you get both of us!  No one us is looking or watching or worst, critiquing as found at so many other stores.  It is a safe place to just embrace the moment, enjoy the experience, and be comfortable and relaxed.

Let Adrienne share her experience! “As someone who has watched “Say Yes to the Dress” more times than I’d like to admit, I had an idea in my mind of how shopping for a wedding dress would go. I have to say that my experience at This Magic Moment went above and beyond what I had hoped for. Mashel and Lisa were so attentive, and I love that the studio is only open to one bride at a time, so there is no competition between brides for dresses or bumping into other people.

My family was warmly welcomed and encouraged to pick a dress that they thought would be the one for me. As I went through the appointment, Mashel and Lisa both picked-up on the things that I liked best about each dress and kept pulling additional dresses that they thought would work. I have never felt more pampered or more taken care of. I found my perfect wedding dress and couldn’t be more thrilled to have done so the first time I went dress shopping. Thank you, so much!!”

brideOnce a bride tries on that first dress, we are able to relax and settle in.  As we work through the likes and dislikes, that one dress will let us know if it is the one.  It is all in the smile!  Go with your gut and your smile.  You know it.  Be comfortable, confident, and feel beautiful.  We always say when you don’t want to take it off and head grocery shopping in it, you have the one!

When you do find it, take a moment to try on veils while you are all dressed up.  Veils aren’t as simple and basic as they look.  Different veils pull out different parts of the dress.  You can decide which one fits you, your personality and your dress the best.  So many times the veil will just create that perfect complete look for your special day.

From Sarah just the other day on our online appointment system, “There are a million wonderful things to say about this place. I’m going to keep it to-the-point since I could go on forever. The store owner & her associate are wonderful people who are excellent at what they do. They have a gift for finding each individual the perfect dress – even if you aren’t sure or think certain dresses are off limits for you. The prices are very reasonable, the experience is so special and the individualized attention is perfect for making the experience a memorable & comfortable one (they are only open for YOU!). I picked out my veil there too (which was helpful to make sure it coordinated). There was wine, chocolate & comfy seats. I cancelled all of my other scheduled appointments after coming here. Put this place on your list today!”

With us it doesn’t end with the appointment.  We are always available to help our brides throughout their wedding process.  Our services extends to us helping you find the best vendors to trust and do a fantastic job.  This includes your seamstress work that happens outside of our studio.

We love that day we are tagged in a brides pictures so we can see and enjoy their amazing day they had.  We are blessed to be a small part of it all.  Watching the smiles on their face is so warming.  Every bride deserves a joyous, happy and fun day.

Jewel’s experience with us from her own words, “I have nothing but great things to say about these professional women. I was amazed at how beautifully their shop was set up, how helpful everyone I spoke with was, and how quick & easy it was for me to find my dream dress. Even after buying my dress I received help from these wonderful ladies finding the perfect seamstress. I will always recommend This Magic Moment bridal Studio to anyone shopping for dress. Thank You!”

Lastly, we at This Magic Moment Bridal Studio pride ourselves on the high-end designer dresses we bring into the store.  We have over 25 different designers over 300 gorgeous dresses at any given time.  We bring in the best of the best.

Lucia Cintra PhotgraphyThese dresses all have designer tags on them, have never been worn or altered, and are in excellent condition. Any small and minor imperfections that may be on a small few are able to be fixed in alterations without any troubles or expenses.

A majority of the studio is off-the-rack, so you get to take it home with you if you say yes!!  We do so many customizations to personalize it to you best through alterations at affordable prices.  We also have the gorgeous Jasmine Bridal line that can be ordered and customized from 6-14 weeks!  There is something for everyone.

Lastly, our prices are very good.  We love that smart and sensible bride who loves a beautiful dress, loves trendy styles and fashion, loves high quality fabrics and beading, but doesn’t want to break the bank.  Weddings can be expensive, so we work hard every day to find dresses that brides will love at prices that are as low as possible for their value.

We love our brides.  We do our job to make sure they have the ultimate and best bridal experience.  That is why so many have given us 5 stars all around and are recommending their friends to us daily.  We thank all our brides and we wish them all the best.  We love seeing them come back with a family or friend to enjoy another bridal experience.

A final message from Morgan from the Knot last month, “I absolutely love this place. After I lost my first dress I was devastated but the ladies here were so helpful and best part was after I found my dress I was able to take it home with me that day. I’ve recommended this magic moment to at least 3 other brides, and I would highly recommend them to the world if I could. Extremely professional as well as punctual and most importantly treat you as the MVP.”

What veil is right for me?

Choosing a wedding veil can be a wonderful eveilxperience if you have a little knowledge on the differences of veils. Wedding veils come in seven standard lengths, each of these lengths has its own benefit to the bride. It is not as confusing as one may think to pick the perfect veil and here is quick guide to help you.

45 inch shoulder length: Works really well with shorter wedding gowns or less formal wedding gowns. Especially cute on a shorter hair style.

54 inch waist or elbow length: This is a very popular length for your wedding veils however you need to make sure that the trim of the veil does not compete with the back of your dress. If you have a less ornate dress a very elaborate trim may be the perfect wow factor for walking down the aisle.

72 inch hip or fingertip veilThis is a particularly flattering veil when completed in a raw edge. A single layer provides full view of the back of the dress and still has a fullness or halo effect around the bride. Definitely one of my favorite lengths.

90 inch floor or waltz length: This veil looks really great on shorter brides who want that fuller veil without it turning into a floor veil.

108 inch ballet floor or puddle veil: Depending on your height this veil will end right at floor or puddles just behind the dress. This looks very refined with gown that does not have a train.

126 inch chapel length: This length this generally the go to for a full veil it will extend inches past the train on most gowns  and produces elegant pictures at the wedding. Definitely a wow factor.

144 inch cathedral lengthYou can’t get more grand than this. My best piece of advice is make sure it fits down the aisle.

Ultimately remember to have fun when shopping for your veil just like you did when you were picking your dress. The best time to pick your veil is right after you say yes to your dress, that way you know what the completed look looks like without much fuss.

Lace That Makes The Dress

Lace Wedding Dresses

Lace has been around since the beginning of fashion times.  It is known as an important part of royalty in their dress attire and weddings.  And it plans to stay!

Oh do our brides love their lace.  There is a lace for every bride.   Do you want it to be chic and comfortable, or do you want striking and sophisticated?  Do you want it to be vintage, antique, old-world, modern, floral, or geometric?

Lace is a very important part of many weddings and wedding dresses. It must be handled with care as it is very delicate to tearing and fraying.  Keeping it in a safe place, one that is flat is preferred to keep it from stretching. Always have it altered by a wedding dress professional. Always go for quality over quantity to look elegant and stylish, but know that it will cost more than the cheap machine-made lace. Consider your veil as it may also have this beautiful lace matching your dress.

So what are some of the different types of lace that adorn wedding dresses these days and which one do you want to consider for your wedding?

lace wedding dressAlencon Lace is a needlepoint lace that is usually found with a floral design on a sheer or net background. It is outlined with a fine cording and often times is embellished with small crystals, seed pearls, or sequins.  It is characterized by its 3-D effect. It is the most common and is sometimes called the “Queen of Lace”. Named of the city of origination of Alencon, France, it has adorn fashion since the 16th century.

lace wedding dressBrussels Lace is now known as an old-fashion bobbin lace.  This lace is very delicate. The floral details are created separately and woven together.  Open stitches that border the pattern are it’s signature, as well as unusual and attractive patterns.

lace wedding dressChantilly Lace is known for its fine ground, outline pattern and abundant detail on a fine plain netting background. The well-defined outlined pattern is either made with silk or linen. Chantilly lace is often used on wedding dress sleeves and overlays.  Usually, abundant floral details and ribbon motiffs adore this lace, and what people love is the unique light and shadow effect it gives off. Ig is the most fluttery and romantic of the group. It’s sheerness can give off a sexy vintage vibe.

Lace Wedding DressDuchesse Lace is known for its large and exquisite floral motiff with larger open spaces in it than other Brussel laces.  The floral motiffs are joined to each other by bars instead of mesh patterns. These motiffs are raised up from the base layer and most times feature large sprays of floral designs.

Lace wedding dressGuipure Lace, also called Venetian lace, is a stiff, open designed lace without a net background and usually is made into a series of close patterns.  It can resemble embroidery or macrame. This lace is heavier than most other types of lace. Its raised texture gives it a bold look. Often found on winter wedding dresses and gives a dramatic statement.

Eyelet Lace is a cotton fabric that is sweet and summery.  Embroidered cutouts often give it a country-spun feel. Usually seen with scalloped edges that provide an heirloom quality.  Its lightness and breathability is often a great choice for an outdoor, warm-weather wedding.lace wedding dresses

Brocade Lace is a class of richly decorative shuttle-woven fabrics, often made in colored silks and with or without gold and silver threads.

Embroidered Lace is growing more popular.  This embroidered lace has delicate patterns .  They are tightly stitched onto an illusion base, such as tulle, to give the appearance of an applique.  It also comes in a variety of patterns.

Your natural eye will gravitate to the lace that is appealing and attractive to you.  High-end designers will have one of these laces or ones similar.  The quality will be obvious from the naked eye.  If it is coming off or there edges are fraying, it’s not of top quality.

With that quality, dresses will cost more.  A very good price of a high-end designer lace dress at our store usually goes over $1000.  At most bridal stores, you will need to reach at least $1200-$1500 to start.  The delicate laces will be found around the $3000 price point or higher.

So with all this info, if there is a type you love, research designers that have a large portion of their inventory with that lace.  Let your eye and gut help guide you.  Try different ones on within your budget and see if there is a difference.

Most importantly, have fun at your bridal appointment.  Enjoy the experience.  Keep an open-mind.  Make sure to try on different styles and lace if possible.  These dresses are like no other so you never know until you try it on.

Pick the one that you feel most beautiful in, lace or no lace  Say YES and celebrate!  Come see us and let’s try a bunch of them on!  Schedule your private and intimate appointment today online!  XO

Seven Types of Lace to Know While Shopping for a Wedding Gown

Minimalist Couples A Trend

micro-wedding

Micro-wedding!

All week the word “Micro-wedding” keeps coming up, so let’s talk about it as it is a big trend with all the minimalist couples.  Micro-wedding differs from elopement. Elopement is organized by the bride and groom and is a secret!  Micro-wedding still keeps many of the traditional aspects of a normal wedding, but just on a much smaller scale.

MIcroweddingPeople tend to classify a micro-wedding with 15 or less people.  With the costs of weddings going up and up, brides and grooms want to save that money and use it in better places for themselves. In Pittsburgh, weddings are almost $28,000.  That is just below the country norm of $29,900,

Couples tend to be together much longer before getting married.  Even living together has increased over the years.  So instead of spending tons of money on feeding food and cake to a bunch of people they haven’t seen in years they are going small.

Our brides and grooms are in a world where the experience is more important.  They would rather register for a trip to Europe then fine china. They would rather be with a few close friends, versus friends they haven’t seen in years or co-workers they really don’t care about.

Instead, it is a small, highly intimate, and personal wedding with just the closest of family and friends they are desiring.  They want to relax and enjoy the ceremony and reception with everyone. It’s basically up close and personal and usually very memorable.

micro-weddingBrides and grooms pick places where they first met, got engaged, or love to go to.  Extended family and friends are more willing to be ok with not being invited knowing it is so small. The bride and groom still get to do traditional wedding things such as a ceremony, cake, dancing, photographer, and flowers.

Minimalist Couple But Still Traditional

It is just on a mini or micro level.   A minimalist couple doesn’t go without, then just minimalize some of the part of the wedding to fit their style.

But as always, it is your day and you can do what you want big or small, traditional or non-traditional, lavish budget or DIY budget.  If you do not want any or all of these things, elopement may be the way for you.

Share with us whether you want the big wedding (over 200 people), medium wedding, micro-wedding (under 20), or to just get away alone and elope?  Tell us why and help other couples make a decision knowing they are no alone.

How to be a last-minute bride and still keep your chill

So you want to get married and you really do not want to plan out a wedding over a year? Everyone is telling you that you cannot break the rules. Well I’m here to tell you that is a lie.

Traditionally buying a wedding gown would take upwards to nine months. NINE MONTHS! This time included shopping, ordering, waiting, waiting, waiting again and then alterations. Can you see why this take so long? We are at This Magic Moment Bridal Studio have a different take on this old tradition.

That’s where we come in as a alternative to the waiting game. 90% of the dresses on our racks you take home the day you find them. Of course you are still going to need alterations and with a little planning that can go off very smoothly. We can easily take that nine month turn around down to three months. In extreme situations It can be even shorter if you have that relationship with a seamstress set up prior to shopping.

You don’t want a dress off the rack and you want something a little more custom? We can do that too! Our line of designer gowns call Jasmine has a 14 to 6 week turnaround. Takes a little more planning but you can still be done in that 3 to 4 months time range.

So my best advice to you is to start working with an expert who understands that not everyone has a year to plan a wedding. Work with somebody who will listen to you as an individual and will guide you through the process. You’re really lucky you found that person and now we want to meet you face to face.
